Periodontitis Treatment
Marginal periodontitis is an infection that affects the gums and the bone supporting the teeth. Treatment aims to reduce the bacterial load, control inflammation and create the conditions for the tissues to heal. It always starts with non-surgical therapy and, when needed, continues with surgical procedures to reduce periodontal pockets and regenerate lost tissue.

Non-surgical treatment
The first stage, essential for every patient. It removes plaque and tartar, decontaminates the root surfaces and brings inflammation back under control.
- Supragingival and subgingival scaling
- Root planing — smoothing and decontaminating the root surface
- Coaching on correct oral hygiene
- Local or systemic antimicrobial therapy when needed
- Reassessment after 4–6 weeks
Surgical treatment
Recommended when deep periodontal pockets remain after non-surgical therapy. It gives direct access to the root and bone for cleaning, reshaping or regeneration.
- Periodontal flap surgery, for access and deep cleaning
- Resective surgery — gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, bone reshaping
- Regenerative surgery — GTR membranes, bone grafts, growth factors
- Muco-gingival surgery, to correct gum recession
Long-term results
The type of surgery — resective or regenerative — depends on the bone defect and the treatment goal. Long-term success depends above all on rigorous oral hygiene and regular maintenance visits.
